Edward R. Guzik, 81, of Sharon, formerly a longtime resident of Prospect Park, PA, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, November 5, 2024, in Addison Health Care Center, Masury, OH after an extended period in nursing care in Sharon and Broomall, PA.
Mr. Guzik was born July 27, 1943, in Sharon, PA, a son of the late John S. and Stephanie M. (Vanecek) Guzik. He was a 1960 graduate of Sharon High School and earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Penn State University in 1964. Ed enlisted and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1964 to 1968 and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant.
As an electrical engineer, he began his career at General Electric in Schenectady, NY, later worked at Westinghouse Electric in Lester, PA, and retired from Foamex Inc., Eddystone, PA.
Ed was of the Catholic faith and a former member of St. Adalbert's Church in Farrell, PA and St. Gabriel Roman Catholic Church in Norwood, PA and was actively on liturgy, usher and cleaning committees.
He had a lifelong love for animals and was treasurer for Brandywine Valley dog training club, volunteered as a driver for Meals on Wheels, had been an active leader and participant with his sons in Boy Scout Troop 174 at St. Gabriel's Church, and served as the treasurer for Schoolhouse Senior Center in Folsom, PA where he participated in many trips/activities and spent many of his days prior to illness. Ed also loved to travel, attend music events, visit family, and do jigsaw puzzles daily with friends.
His wife, Linda L. (Moran) Guzik, from Amsterdam, NY, whom he married on September 9, 1978, preceded him in death on March 5, 2000.
Ed is survived by his twin sons, Richard E. Guzik, of Ridley Park, PA, and David M. Guzik, of Chester, PA; a brother, Michael A. Guzik and goddaughter Suzanne M. Guzik, both of Austin, TX; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his wife and parents, Ed was preceded in death by two sisters, Geraldine A. Valone and Dorothy J. Guzik; and a brother, Robert J. Guzik.
Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing from 10-11 AM, Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at Cavanagh Family Funeral Home, 301 Chester Pike, Norwood, where a service will be held at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, with full military honors accorded.
A celebration of life will be held in Sharon, PA at a later date.
