Obituary

Edward D. Carney passed away peacefully at 6:45 p.m. on Monday (9-6-10) in Independence Court, Monroeville, Pa following an extended illness. He was 90.

Mr. Carney was born July 23, 1920 in Sharon, the son of the late Edward and Nell Hoban Carney.

He attended schools in Sharon and after graduating high school he served his country proudly as a Marine Staff Sergeant in WWII in the South Pacific. Later in life he attended General Motors classes and worked for over 40 years as an Automotive Service Manager, retiring in 1988 from Hofius Chevrolet, Sharpsville. He previously worked for Reiber Cadillac, New Castle, Purdie Chevrolet, and Stupka Pontiac, Sharon.

Mr. Carney enjoyed golfing and was a member of several golf leagues in and around the Sharon area. He is proud to have scored two Aces over the years both at Tam O'Shanter Golf Course in Hermitage. where he worked as both a ranger and starter after his retirement.

He was a member of St. Bartholomew Church and assisted with the bereavement meals. He was a former member of the Sharpsville Service Club.

He is survived by his wife the former Margaret 'Peg' Flowers, whom he married February 5, 1945.

He is also survived by two sons, Edward Michael 'Mickey' Carney and his wife Janet, Murrysville, PA and David J. Carney, Sharpsville; a brother, William Carney and his wife Lois, Okeechobee, Florida; three grandchildren, Leanne Jones and her husband Craig, Lindsay Carney, Sean Michael Carney, one great-grandchild, Charlotte, and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to Independence Court Assisted Living Facility, 279 Center Rd, Monroeville, Pa. 15146 in memory of Edward D. Carney.

Calling hours: 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday (9-9-10) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State Street, Sharon.

Services: A funeral service will be held on Friday (9-10-11) at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Matthew J. Kujawinski pastor of St. Bartholomew Church officiating.

Cremation: Mr. Carney's ashes will be interred in St. Mary's Cemetery following his funeral services.
