Obituary

A funeral service will be Saturday for Edward "Ed" G. Anderson Sr. of Hermitage. He passed away at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, in his residence. He was 88. Mr. Anderson was born May 21, 1925, in Greenfield, Lackawannock Township, a son of Frederick and Frances Fobes Anderson. He was a 1943 graduate of West Middlesex High School. Following high school, Ed went on to attend two years of higher education at Youngstown College, now Youngstown State University. He retired in 1985 after working for 41 years at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. As a World War II veteran, Mr. Anderson served in the U.S. Army, where he received an occupation metal. Ed was a member of Lebanon Presbyterian Church, Lackawannock Township, and American Legion Post 160, Farrell. He was a volunteer for many years at UPMC Horizon, Farrell. Ed enjoyed hunting and being outdoors. His wife, Margot B. Boll Anderson, whom he married June 21, 1947, passed away March 17, 2009. Surviving are: three daughters, Ingrid Thompson and her husband Mark, Hermitage; Gloria Harakal, Sharon; and Monika Dalton and her husband Edward, Hermitage; two sons, Edward Anderson and his wife Stacy, Hermitage; and Richard Anderson and his wife Kathleen, Moncks Corner, S.C.; two sisters, Wanda Tompkins, Masury; and Mary Heckathorn and her husband Walter, Russellville, Ky.; 10 grandchildren, Jared Thompson, Edward Anderson and his companion Nicole Kardos, Nicholas Anderson and Alexis Anderson, all Hermitage; Andrew and his wife Jenna Anderson, Moncks Corner; Ashley and her husband Peter Valiquett, Summerville, S.C.; and Megan Mittal, Emiley Mittal and Rebecca Dalton, all Hermitage; and a great-grandchild, Caden Anderson. In addition to his wife, Edward was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Frederick, Howard and John "Jack" Anderson; and a grandson, Ronald Zaremba. Memorial contributions may be made to UPMC Cancer Care Center, 2200 Memorial Drive, Farrell, PA 16121. Calling hours: 5 to 8 p.m. Friday (10-25-13) in J. BRADLEY McGONIGLE FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORY Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon. Service: Funeral service at noon Saturday (10-26-13) in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. August Hurst, pastor of Lebanon Presbyterian Church, Lackawannock Township, officiating. Interment: Fair Oaks Cemetery, New Wilmington, where military honors will be rendered.
