Obituary

Edmund J. "Ed" Gursky, 70, of Austintown, OH, passed away Monday afternoon, February 10, 2025, in Mercy Health- St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

Mr. Gursky was born on September 12, 1954, in Sharon, a son of the late Edmund and Alexanderine "Lexie" (Divens) Gursky. He was a 1972 graduate of Brookfield High School.

Ed was a longtime employee of Covelli Enterprises. He worked as the director of operations for the company's McDonald's franchise from 1971 to 2000. He then worked in the same capacity for Panera Bread in Central Florida from 2001 until he retired in 2021.

Ed was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Sharon.

He was also a Son of the American Legion, Post #299, in Sharon. When his children were younger, he served as President of the Sharon American Little League and was an integral part of the Sharon Football Boosters.

Ed had a passion for hunting, fishing and golfing with his sons and enjoyed traveling with his beloved wife, Bridget.  He also enjoyed getting together with friends to play Euchre. Above all, family was number one to Ed. He was his grandchildren's biggest fan and looked forward to supporting them at all of their events. Ed also cherished his family vacations, especially taking his grandkids to Disney World.

He is survived by his wife, the former Bridget Biro, whom he married on April  23, 1979; two sons, Edmund Gursky, Jr, of Austintown, and Nick (Renee) Gursky, of Wake Forest, NC; four grandchildren, Edmund Gursky III, Leona, Anna and Benjamin Gursky; and a sister, Kathleen (Chip) Shaffer, of Brookfield. Also surviving is his father-in-law, Joseph Biro, Sr., of Sharon; two brothers-in-law, Joseph Biro, Jr., of Hermitage, and Kevin (Anita Mackin) Biro, of Hudson, OH; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by a sister, Marcia May; a brother, Phil Gursky; his mother-in-law, Mary Ann Biro; and a sister-in-law, Sheila Biro-Lobota.

The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to St. Joseph's Church, 79 Case Ave., Sharon, PA 16146; or to the American Heart Association, at www.heart.org

Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday (02/17/2025) in St. Joseph's Church, Sharon.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday, in the church, with Rev. Raymond Gramata, as celebrant.

Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.
Arrangements entrusted to J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 East State St., Sharon.
