Doyel R. O'Brien Sr. of Hermitage passed away at 3:15 p.m. Friday, October 14, 2016, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 90.
Mr. O'Brien was born November 6, 1925, in Belington, WV, a son of Edna O'Brien. He was raised an educated in Belington, graduating from Belington High School.
Following high school he enlisted in the US Army during WWII. Doyel was stationed in Mannheim Germany as an infantryman and later serving in the quartermaster battalion. He met and married his wife in Germany, the former Mary Tscharskaja, in 1947.
Doyel moved to the Shenango Valley in 1957. He worked in different mills until the early 1960's when he began working in the sheet metal trade, which he continued until he retired.
Doyel loved fishing, gardening and was constantly working to improve his home and property.
He was a member of the Neshannock Alliance Church, West Middlesex.
Surviving are: two daughters, Rosemary Richards and her husband Douglas, Mich; and Clara O'Brien and her husband Lance Hulme, Greensboro, NC; four sons, Doyel O'Brien Jr. and his wife Cindy, Fredonia; Albert O'Brien, Fowler, OH; Jonathan O'Brien, Hubbard; and Nathan O'Brien, Transfer; four sisters, Mary Nell Swogger and her husband Buster, TX; Linda Stilly, Hermitage; Thelma Price, WV; and Carolean Schafer, Fairmont, WV; two brothers, Jack O'Brien and his wife Yvonne, Hermitage; and Jerrie O'Brien and his wife Glenda, Warren, OH; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Besides his mother and wife, Doyel was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa O'Brien; a sister, Martha Corley; and four brothers, Paul, Joseph, Donnie, and Danny O'Brien.
The family suggest memorial contributions be made to Neshannock Alliance Church, 3109 Keel Ridge Rd., West Middlesex, PA 16159.
Calling hours will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2016, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2016, in the funeral home with Re. Jeff Smith, pastor of Neshannock Alliance Church, officiating.
Interment: America's Cemetery, Hermitage.
