Dorothy Marie (Halttunen) Roach passed away January 5, 2025, after an extended illness. She was born August 25, 1938, to Finnish parents, Armas and Armida Halttunen. She was raised on a farm in Slippery Rock with her six siblings where they grew and raised their own food and operated a coal mine. She attended the one-room Wolf Creek School House and later graduated from Slippery Rock High School. She then earned a teaching degree from SRU.
Dorothy married Edward Glaser in 1959. They built a home in South Pymatuning where they raised three daughters: Lisa, Tamara and Kerry Lynn. While her daughters were in school, she frequently worked as a substitute teacher for the local school districts. In the 1980s, Dorothy attended Penn State Shenango and earned an associate's degree in electrical engineering. She worked at Penn Power in sales and product demonstrations until her retirement. Dorothy married Roger Roach in 2001. They spent many winters at their home in Scottsdale AZ where they socialized with friends and family. Roger passed away in 2022.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters Tamara Glaser (San Diego) and Kerry Tadic (Cleveland), four grandchildren: Maja and Niko Tadic, Linda DeSantis (Denver, Samuel), and Logan Summerlin (Washington D.C.), and son-in-law Ray Summerlin. She is also survived by her brother William Halttunen of New Wilmington and many cousins, nephews, and nieces. She was preceded in death by her daughter Lisa Summerlin in 2024.
Dorothy was a renaissance woman with many skills and interests. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, and knitting and made an effort to make every family occasion special. She was an avid reader and enjoyed watching sports and walking. She loved her grandchildren and attended countless plays, recitals, and sporting events. Dorothy loved classical music, played the piano, and sang in the choir at Christ Lutheran Church where she practiced her faith for many years. She was proud of her Finnish heritage. Throughout her life, Dorothy personified the Finnish concept of "Sisu", which means approaching daily life with an attitude of tenacity, grit, and resilience.

Funeral service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. Saturday, in the church, with Rev. Dennis Blauser, pastor, officiating.
Interment: Oak Park Cemetery, New Castle.
