Obituary

Dorothy P. Perdue, 103, of New Castle passed away peacefully at 9:15 a.m. Sunday, November 6, 2016, in UPMC Jameson Hospital.

Mrs. Perdue was born May 5, 1913, in New Castle, a daughter of the late Rex L. and Marie King Patch.

A lifelong area resident, Dorothy was a 1931 graduate of New Castle High School. She then matriculated to Westminster College graduating in 1935 with a Bachelor of Science degree in music education.

Dorothy was a music teacher and band leader at the former Croton Elementary School for the majority of her teaching career, retiring in 1970.

She was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church.
Dorothy was also a member of the College Club and Women's Club, both of New Castle.

She was a former Vice President of the local PSEA and song leader of the PASR.

Dorothy married William Perdue on June 24, 1943, and he preceded her in death in 1968.

Her father was a pioneer in radio, receiving the first broadcast in this part of the country transmitted to him from Grove City six months before KDKA went on the air in 1920. One of his radios remains on display in the lobby of the Lawrence County Courthouse.

Dorothy was a fan of sports and sports cars. She drove a five speed Fiero after retirement for 20 years. She traveled extensively and loved to play piano.

Dorothy had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed telling the many interesting stories of her life.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son John W. Perdue in 1968

Memorial contributions may be made to the John W. Perdue Scholarship Fund at Swarthmore College, 500 College Ave., Swarthmore, PA 19081.

All funeral services will be private.

Interment will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens.
