Obituary

Dorothy Elinor Mitchell, formerly of West Middlesex and Hermitage, passed away after an extended illness at 7:40 a.m. Monday (12-6-10) in John XXIII Home, Hermitage, where she was a resident for the past three and a half years. She was 87.

Mrs. Mitchell was born March 22, 1923 in Brookfield, Ohio a daughter of the late John and Pearl Rager Fennell.

A lifelong area resident, she attended W. Middlesex schools.

Mrs. Mitchell was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Sharon. She was a former member of the national and local chapters of the AARP. She was a member of many senior bowling leagues at Thornton Hall Lanes, Sharon; Sunset Lanes, Farrell; and the former Hickory Bowl in Hermitage. Dorothy enjoyed crafts, cooking, baking, playing cards, bus tours, traveling with her husband, country music and shopping, especially on QVC in her later years. In her younger years she enjoyed family outings, singing with her two sisters, Bertha and Betty, and square dancing. Most important to her was her family, with whom she shared unconditional love.

Her husband, William 'Bill' Mitchell, whom she married September 7, 1940, passed away August 3, 1995.

Surviving are: two daughters, Eleanor Mitchell Johnson, Sharpsville; and Kathy Fobes and her husband Clyde, Eagle Bridge, NY; a son, Jeffrey Mitchell and his wife Darlene, West Middlesex; six grandchildren, Tom Johnson, Karen Krause, Bill Fobes, Kelly White; and twins, Melissa Fobes and Mindy Wester; seven great grandchildren, twins, Gavin and Ashton; Rachael, Jimmy, Morgan, Matthew and Jeffery; two sisters, Edna Gladysz, West Middlesex; and Patricia Calvin, Greenville; a brother, Howard Fennell, Downey, CA; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Besides her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by three sisters, Violet Perrine, Betty Fennell and Bertha Rocco; and eight brothers, Ansley, Clarence, Raymond, Walter, Woodrow, John Robert, William and George.

Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday (12-9-10) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon; and one hour before the service Friday (12-10-10) in Covenant Presbyterian Church, Sharon.

Funeral service will be 12 noon Friday (12-10-10) in Covenant Presbyterian Church, Sharon, with Pastor Chris D. Wright officiating.
