Dorothy E. (Kuzniar) Melone of Brookfield, OH passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 11, 2017. She was surrounded by her family at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, OH. She was 85.
Mrs. Melone was born January 4, 1932, in Farrell, a daughter of Andrew and Eva (Gradzilla) Kuzniar.
She was a 1949 graduate of Farrell High School and was employed by the former Mangnotto's Market, Farrell.
Following high school, she was employed by the former ERNST Inc. and Westinghouse Electric Corp., Reynolds plant.
After having her daughter she returned to the workforce and was employed by the Brookfield Board of Education as a payroll clerk for 18 years. She retired in 1992.
Dorothy was a devout lifelong member of St. Adalbert Church, Farrell, where she was a member of its choir and the Altar Rosary society.
She was a former secretary for the Sharon Tube Retirees, bowled in the Polish National Alliance and Women's bowling leagues, and was a member of the Sharon Tube Retirees card club and Bunco club.
Dorothy enjoyed playing bingo, crocheting, baking cookies and cakes and making pierogis with members from her church. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Her husband, Americo "Rico" Melone, whom she married August 3, 1957 in St. Adalbert's Church, Farrell, by the late Rev. C.T. Nagorski, passed away on March 15, 2009.
Dorothy is survived by: a daughter, Linda Watters and her husband David, Willow Wood, OH; a brother, Theodore Kuzniar and his wife Nancy, Masury; two grandchildren, Susan Bazzle and her husband Andrew, Mobile, AL; and David M. Watters, Pensicola, FL, all of whom served in the armed forces.
In addition to her husband and parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by four sisters, Stella (John) Mazur; Sophie (Sam) Santell; Helen (John) Murcko; and Frances "Lolly" (John) Steklachick; two brothers, Edward (Katie) Kuzniar and Stanley "Chauncy" (Ann) Kuzniar;a sister-in-law, Mary (Victor) Fuggetta; and three brothers-in-law, Anthony "Tony" (Mary) Malone, Salvatore "Sam" (Phyllis) Malone and Constantine "Tut" (Linda) Malone.
Dorothy will be missed by her family and the many friends she shared her life with.
She will be fondly remembered as a woman of conviction, and a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, God-mother and friend.
She enjoyed life to its fullest and, through her example, taught us how to find the joy in any moment.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7p.m. Friday, February 17, 2017, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, February 18, 2017, in St. Adalbert Church, 1035 Fruit Ave, Farrell, PA 16121, with Rev. Glenn Whitman, pastor of Church of the Good Shepherd, West Middlesex, as celebrant.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Hermitage.
