Dorothy DeSantis, North Judy Lynn Drive, Farrell, passed away of natural causes on Friday (12-11-09) at 6:10 a.m. in Sharon Regional Health System. She was 87.
She was born in Buffalo, NY, on August 26, 1922 the daughter of William and Catherine Mooney Caton.
She graduated from Mount Aloysius High School in Ebensburg, Pa. She matriculated to the Nursing program at St. Francis Hospital in Pittsburgh where she would meet her future husband Dr. Peter L. DeSantis whom she married on June 1, 1944, he passed away on February 11, 1993.
A homemaker, she belonged to Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother and she gave all of her time to her family. She also volunteered countless hours over the years to her children's school activities and served with the Ladies Auxiliary at the Sharon General Hospital.
Mrs. DeSantis worked in her husband's office where she had been the bookkeeper and accountant for many years.
She is survived by her six daughters, Margaret 'Peggy' Bell, Farrell; Mary O. DeSantis, Houston, Tx; Andrea L. DeSantis Audubon, NJ ; Pam Alvanos and her husband John, Alpharetta, Ga.; Carol L. DeSantis Mirkovich and her husband Paul, Farrell; Kathyrn E. DeSantis Alpharetta; four sons, James P. DeSantis D. O. and his wife Carol, Clearfield, Pa.; Peter J. DeSantis P E. and his wife Lorrie, Alpharetta; William P. DeSantis and his wife Laura, Powder Springs, Ga., and David DeSantis, Esq., San Francisco, a son in law, Stephen E. Finn, Akron, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Gina, Erin, and Luke DeSantis, Scott Valenti, James Christopher 'JC', and Lauren Billak, Anthony, and Michael DeSantis, Christina and Sophia DeSantis, and a great grandson, Dominic Valenti, a sister Teresa Benning, Lyndon VT, and a brother, Joseph Caton, Dallas TX., and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Patricia Ann DeSantis Finn and 4 sisters and 4 brothers.

Calling hours: 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday (12-13-09) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 1090 E. State St. Sharon. A Rosary will be recited at 6:45 p.m.

Services: Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday (12-14-09) at 1:30 p.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell with Rev. Donald E. Berdis, pastor officiating. There will be a brief prayer service at 12:45 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home prior to leaving for the church.
Interment: St. Anthony's Cemetery, Hermitage.
