Dorothy Broadbent, 83, of Hermitage, passed away Sunday morning, December 2, 2018, in Sharon Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Broadbent was born June 29, 1935, in Lancaster, PA, a daughter of Ralph, Sr. and Elinor (Remesnik) Fundoots. She was a 1953 graduate of New Castle High School and earned her registered nurses licenses from Jameson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, New Castle, in 1956.
She was employed as an operating room nurse for five years at Jameson Memorial Hospital. In 1962 Dorothy moved to Hermitage and began working at Sharon Regional Medical Center. She was employed there for 32 years in the operating room and was the head nurse for 8 years. She was a member and served many years as the president and vice-president of the Association of Operating Room Nurses, Youngstown, OH, Chapter.
Dorothy was a member of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, where she taught catechism for many years. She was also a member of AARP in Hermitage and served as its treasurer for two years; the Hermitage Women's Club; and was on the board of directors for Mental Health Association of Sharon.
An avid reader, Dorothy read thousands of books in her lifetime. She also looked forward to card club with her friends and enjoyed traveling.
Her husband of more than 60 years, John "Jack" Whitten Broadbent, passed away August 17, 2016.
She is survived by three daughters, Karen Zoccole and her husband Brian, of Sharpsville; Jacqueline Terrill and her husband Neil, of West Pittsburg, PA; and Emily Broadbent, of Warren, PA; a son, John Broadbent, of Sharon; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and a brother, Ralph Fundoots, Jr., of Garland, TX.
In addition to her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, the former Anne Smallnik; a daughter, Cheryl Broadbent; a son, Gregory Broadbent; and a grandson, Peter Carpec, III.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Mental Health Association of Mercer County, 196 Stambaugh Ave., Sharon, PA 16146.
Calling hours will be 10 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday (12/6/2018) in the Church of Notre Dame, 2325 Highland Rd., Hermitage.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, in the church with the Very Rev. Richard J. Allen E.V., pastor, as celebrant.

Entombment: St. Rose Cemetery Mausoleum, Hermitage.
