Dorothy Jean Aldan, 93, passed away peacefully on Saturday morn-ing, Aug. 24, 2013, at the Overlook in New Wilmington. She was a former resident of East Madison Avenue in Mahoningtown for many years. Dorothy was born in New Castle on July 13, 1920, to the late James Datus and Alice Catherin Greenhill Thompson. She was a graduate of the 1940 class of New Castle High School. Dorothy married Traean Richard Aldan on April 13, 1942. He preceded her in death on Feb. 21, 1989. She retired in 1982 from Treasure Island Department Store as a sales clerk. She had also worked at Hills and King department stores. Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Christina Ann (William) Sphar and Sandra Jean (Calvin) Wynn, both of New Castle; two sons, David Richard Aldan of Poland, Ohio, and Traean Richard (Judy) Aldan of New Castle; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Cynthia Louise Aldan and an infant daughter, Dorothy Jean Aldan; five brothers; and one sister. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, 111 W. Falls St. A service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
