Doris "Dot" Ward, 92, of Avalon Care Center, formerly of Union Township, passed away peacefully the evening of Friday, July 15, 2016, at the care center.
Mrs. Ward was born on May 31, 1924, in Queens, New York, a daughter of the late Henry and Anna Wynne Lammers.
She was raised in Queens and graduated from PS 157 High School.
Dot married George A. Ward on July 18, 1948, at Grace Episcopal Church in Jamaica, New York, then proceeded to live and raise her family on Long Island, New York.
She worked for many years as a home caregiver for the elderly, and upon retirement, she moved to New Castle with her husband in 1992. George preceded her in death on June 2, 2007.
Mrs. Ward was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
She loved to attend bingo every Wednesday evening, and especially enjoyed an occasional glass of White Zinfandel.
She is survived by a daughter, Alison W. (Lenny) Clingensmith; two grandchildren, Jordan Clingensmith and Kaylin (Matt) Collingwood; and two great-grandchildren, Ayla and Maxwell Collingwood, all of New Castle.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Gary J. Ward, on July 27, 2011.
Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 111 W. Falls St.
A memorial service will be held immediately following visitation at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Erin Betz Shank, pastor of Trinity Episcopal Church, will officiate.
