Obituary

Doris Mae Lucas, 55 W. Connelly Blvd., Sharon, formerly of Morefield Rd., Hermitage, passed away of complications from a stroke at 7:55 a.m. Sunday, January 22, 2012, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 84.

Mrs. Lucas was born May 27, 1927 in Sharon a daughter of the late Milton E. and Jessie A. Anderson Hosack.

A lifelong area resident, Doris was a 1945 graduate of Sharon High School and a 1949 alumna of Youngstown State University where she received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration.

Doris began working at the former Reznor Drug Company, downtown Sharon, while in high school. Following her graduation from college, she continued working for Reznor in the bookkeeping and accounting departments while also working in the same capacity for the former Kaufman's Chevrolet, New Wilmington, and the former Bell Motor's, Sharon. She later worked at the former Beckdol's Sporting Goods, downtown Sharon, and retired from the East Side Church, Sharon, where she was the church secretary for more than fifteen years.

Doris was a longtime active member of the East Side Church where she was a deaconess, a choir member and a former Trustee. She was also treasurer for the Hickory Little League in Hermitage for many years. Always one to keep busy, Doris was active in many of her children's scholastic and athletic activities. She was an avid reader and enjoyed watching movies, particularly old ones.

Her husband, Paul Lucas, whom she married November 24, 1948, passed away June 10, 1989.

Surviving are: a daughter, Marilyn P. Davis and her husband Thomas A., Waynesboro, VA; two sons, Roger M. Lucas, Greenville; and Brian P. Lucas and his wife Shannon, Shirley, Mass.; and three grandchildren, Christopher P.M. Lucas, and twins, Emery Mae and Connor Mason Lucas.

Besides her parents and husband, Doris was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Barbara Mae Lucas.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the East Side Church, 201 Spruce Ave., Sharon, PA 16146.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2012, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 26, 2012, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dr. Robert Varnam, pastor of the East Side Church, Sharon, officiating.
