Donna J. Dexter, 89, of New Castle passed away peacefully Monday evening, February 25, 2019, in UPMC Jameson Hospital.

Donna was born June 30, 1929, in Youngstown, OH, a daughter of the late Harry A. and Elmina G. (Houk) Orr. As a young girl, her family moved to New Castle and she later graduated from New Castle High School in June of 1947.

Donna was employed by E. J. Williams Tire Company, New Castle, where she worked as a bookkeeper for many years, retiring in 1999. She was previously employed by Klafter's Inc., also in New Castle.

Donna was a longtime member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, Neshannock Twp., where she taught Sunday school for many years and actively participated in the prayer chain.

A self-taught seamstress, she loved to sew and knit clothing, quilts and pillows for her family. Donna also enjoyed reading and traveling to wineries and quilt shops with her children.

Her exceptional kindness, compassion and generosity will be lovingly missed not only by her family and friends, but especially the many animals she adored and helped throughout her life.

Donna is survived by two daughters, Susan Dexter, and Sally Dexter, with whom she made her home; a son, David Dexter; and a very special friend, Lois Ziegler, all of New Castle; and her two grand-dogs, Fiona and George.

Her children always came first, and she endlessly supported their interests and attended their activities her entire life.

Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday (2-28-19) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle.

Funeral service will be immediately following at 7 p.m., in the funeral home, with Rev. Dr. Jordan Rimmer and Rev. Victor J. Molka, officiating.

Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Neshannock Twp.
