Donna Marie Dekanich, 77, of Hermitage, passed away following an extended illness Tuesday morning, January 21, 2025, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Mrs. Dekanich was born December 27, 1947, in Sharon, a daughter of the late Norman O. and Angeline M. (Reda) Lombardo. After graduating from Farrell High School in 1965, she earned her certification as a Registered Nurse in 1968 after graduating from Spencer School of Nursing in Meadville, PA.

She began her nursing career in the emergency department Farrell Osteopathic Hospital, where she later worked in the psychiatric department. Donna then worked as a psychiatric nurse for children and adolescents at Belmont Pines Hospital, Youngstown, OH, and earned her psychiatric nursing certification during that time. She later worked in a similar capacity at the Horsham Psychiatric Clinic near Philadelphia, PA, and while ending her career at Sharon Regional Medical Center.

In addition to cooking, Donna enjoyed gardening, bird watching on the back patio, and needlework. She was also an avid reader who loved being "Nana" to her seven grandchildren.

Her husband of 20 years. Anthony S. "Tony" Dekanich, whom she married in 2004, survives at their home in Hermitage.

Donna is also survived by four children, Valorie Dunch (Stephen), of Hermitage, PA, Elisa Kashmer, of Sharon, PA, Aaron Kashmer (Yvette), of Ypsilanti, MI, and Marc Kashmer (Sara), of Sharon, PA; a brother, David Lombardo (Patrice), Hilton Head Island, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Jill, Marcus, Alivia, Marisa, Ellah, Oliver, and Marc; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Donna was preceded in death by a sister, Susan Lombardo; and her beloved friend, Stella Rummel.

Calling hours will be 3 to 6 p.m. Monday (1-27-25) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday (1-28-25) in St. Anthony Church, 804 Idaho St., Sharon, with Rev. John Hindman, as celebrant.

Interment: Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Hermitage.
