Obituary

Donald G. Saxe, 95, of Hermitage, passed away Thursday, January 07, 2021, in his home.

Mr. Saxe was born June 25, 1925, in Greenville, a son of the late William J. and Irene E. (Snearline) Saxe. He was a 1943 graduate of St. Michael's High School, Greenville. He earned a bachelor's of science degree in biology and chemistry from Thiel College, Greenville and later his master's degree in education from Westminster College, New Wilmington.

Don served his country in the US Army during WWII, in the 28 th Infantry, 112 Regiment. Prior to his discharge he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant, with three campaign stars and a bronze star while serving in the European Theater and the Battle of the Bulge.

Don was employed for five years at Saegertown School District and 32 years for Sharon City School District, where he taught biology, chemistry, physics and retired as the Assistant Principal of the high school.

Don was a former member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Greenville and currently a member of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage.

He loved going on walks with his dog, Josie and tinkering or in his words "flub dubbing" around the house.

He is survived by his wife, the former Bonnie J. Reagle, whom he married June 30, 1951; two daughters, Jacqueline A. Buchman, of Miramar, FL, and Susan M. Baker and her husband John, of Florissant, MO; a son, Paul W. Saxe, of Hermitage; six grandchildren, Denise Spangler, Kelly Masson, Leann Bronson and Alek, Nicolas and Marysa Baker; nine great grandchildren, Konnor and Jada McCall, Colton Spangler, Kane, Levi and Asa Masson, Emily Jean, Annie Mae and Jacob Matthew Bronson; and one great-great grandchild, Ethan Masson.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by two sisters, Jeanette Van Dyke and Mary L. Couch; three brothers, William A., Robert E. and Paul E. Saxe; and a son-in-law, Thomas Mascar.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Monday (01/11/2020) in the Church of Notre Dame, 2250 Highland Rd., Hermitage, with the Very Rev. Richard Allen, E.V., pastor, as celebrant.

Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.
