Donald Earl Roberts of Hermitage passed away unexpectedly
Monday
afternoon, June 19, 2017, in his residence. He was 88.
Mr. Roberts was born October 27, 1928, in Sharon, a son of Verice (Bolt) Clark. He was a lifelong area resident and attended Hickory High School, Hermitage. Don served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War Era. Following his honorable discharge, he worked for Sharon Steel Corp.'s former Farrell plant as pit crane man for 38 years. Don ultimately retired in 2004 from Steel Trucking Co., Wheatland, where he worked as a truck driver for 12 years. He was a member of the VFW Post 6166, Hermitage.
Don had a talent for repairing anything mechanical, particularly welding, and never hesitated when given the opportunity to help a friend or family member fix things around their homes. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle for many years, reading and spending time with his family, especially his five grandsons.
His wife of more than 62 years, the former Julia Marie Gancsos, passed away January 6, 2013.
Surviving are: a son, Daniel Roberts and his wife Lynne, Hermitage; a son-in-law, Michael Edney, Fredonia; and five grandchildren, Benjamin, Timothy and Andrew Edney; and Candy Greenfield and Paul Brakeman.
In addition to his wife, Don was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kathleen Edney; and a grandson, Andrew Shaffer.
There will be no calling hours.
Graveside military honors will be rendered 11 a.m. Saturday ( 6-24-17 ) by members of American Legion Post 432, Wheatland, VFW Post 5286, and American Legion Post 6233, West Middlesex honor guard in Riverside Cemetery, Sharpsville.
Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Sharpsville.
