Obituary

Donald A. "Sam" Jones, 61, of "Downtown" Frizzleburg passed away unexpectedly Monday afternoon, February 19, 2024, at his home.

Mr. Jones was born October 12, 1962, in New Castle, a son of the late Donald E. and Dorothy J. (Baker) Jones, and graduated from Lawrence Co. Vo-Tech in 1981.

Sam worked maintenance at U.S. Airways, Pittsburgh, PA, for 21 years, and previously worked in the same capacity for A. Stucki/American Industries, Sharon, PA. He was currently working as a seasonal equipment operator for PennDot.

Sam was a lifelong active member of New Bedford E.P.C., Pulaski, where he served as an Elder, a Deacon, a choir member, a soloist, and a worship team member. He also served as "Feet Head" Association Commissioner and played Euchre with his wife and friends for many years.

A devoted husband, father, and grandpa, Sam dedicated his life to his family and those he loved. Together, they enjoyed traveling, singing Karaoke, playing Cribbage, motorcycle riding, and four-wheeling.

His wife of 29 years, Geniene (Courson) Jones, whom he married November 19, 1994, survives at their home in "Downtown" Frizzleburg.

Sam is survived by three children, Rachel Bobic (Daniel), Poland, OH, Allen Jones (Carrie), New Bedford, PA, Alexis Lockhart (Jacob), New Bedford, PA; two sisters, Darlene Robison, Sharpsville, PA, and Denise Rowan (Larry), Helena, MT; two brothers, Danny Jones (Dawn), Stafford, VA, and Dennis Jones (Lori), Edinburg, PA; four grandchildren, Eva, Blake, Austin, and Baden, with baby Lockhart expected this June. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Sandra Courson, two brothers-in-law, Craig Courson and Lance Courson (Bobbie Jo); and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews he loved dearly.

In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by an infant brother, David Jones; and a brother-in-law, Richard Robison.

His larger-than-life personality filled with humor and care for others will be missed by all.
