Obituary

Donald Parker Henry of Hermitage passed away at 5 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2016 , in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Youngstown, following a period of declining health. He was 79.

Mr. Henry was born April 30, 1936, in New Bethlehem, PA, a son of Clyde and Hazel Kunselmen Henry.

He served with the Army and, following his honorable discharge, was a twenty year resident of Delaware Grove, Mercer County, where he lived in a home which he built. He then lived in Grove City until his retirement when he moved to Hermitage.

Donald was employed as a foundry worker at Cooper Bessemer in Grove City for more than 40 years, retiring in 1998. He was a member of Charleston United Methodist Church and a former member of Grace United Methodist Church, Grove City.

He was an active member of Hemlock Grange in Pine Township and a member of the Mercer County and State Grange Associations. He participated with the granges traveling ritual team and worked tirelessly for many years at the Grange Fairgrounds in Mercer. He had previously been a member of the London Grange.

Donald was active in the Boy Scouts of America, Troop # 73, Fredonia, during the late 1960's and early 1970's. He was a longtime Lionel Train enthusiast and collector.

An outdoorsman, he enjoyed nature and hiking, camping and canoeing with his family.

Don was a volunteer for the Salvation Army, Meals-on-wheels and the Grove City Food Pantry. For his dedication to the food pantry, Grove City Area United Way recognized he and his wife with the C. Douglas Clinger Community Service award in 2002.

His wife, the former Ruth Ellen Leighty, whom he married December 7, 1956 in Fredonia Presbyterian Church, passed away January 12, 2008.

Surviving are: a son, Paul C. Henry and his fiancé Joyce Appel, Hermitage; two daughters, Hazel I. Campbell and her husband Tom, Sharon; and JoEllen R. Geiwitz and her husband John, Hermitage; four grandchildren, Mike and Donna Campbell; and Lisa and Laurie Hawk; and 4 great-grandchildren, Casey, Alexis, Isabelle and Gabriella. He also leaves a sister, Wilda Worth; two brothers, Al Henry and his wife Sharon; and Arthur Henry and his wife Kay; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, Don was preceded in death by his parents.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Charleston United Methodist Church, 1156 Greenfield Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148; or the Shenango Valley Community Food Warehouse, 109A S. Sharpsville Ave., Sharon, PA 16146.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2016 , in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 7, 2016, in the funeral home, with the Rev. William J. Locke, pastor of Charleston United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment: Millbank Cemetery, Fairview Township.
