Donald J. "Bud" Davis of Sharpsville passed away at 10 a.m. Monday (4-20-15) in his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 80. Mr. Davis was born Nov. 26, 1934, in West Middlesex, a son of Thomas W. and Helen Breu Davis. A lifelong area resident, he was a member of West Middlesex High School's class of 1952. He joined the U.S. Navy on Jan. 14, 1952, and was honorably discharged on Oct. 27, 1955. His home base was Pearl Harbor, and he served during the Korean conflict. Donald participated in operation Wigwam, an underwater atom bomb test. At his discharge from the Navy, he was awarded several medals including the Korean Service, United Nations, China Service and National Defense medals. On July 31, 1956, he married Clara Grace Stull in First Methodist Church, Sharon; she survives at home. He was employed by Bell Atlantic for 36½ years, retiring in December 1992. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, scuba diving and a good round of golf. He was a true family man, enjoying their activities. Bud belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars Hickory Post 6166, Hermitage, and the Telephone Pioneers and 100,000 Mile Club. In addition to his wife, he is survived by: his three children, Cindy Mastrian and her husband Sam, Hermitage; their three children, Samantha Leali and her husband Dan, Adam Mastrian, and Carly Helberg and her husband Chris; his daughter, Susan Fleming, Sharpsville; and her children Brian, Mitchell and Erin Fleming; and his son David Davis and his wife Lori, Sharpsville, and their children Megan and Ben. He is also survived by: two sisters, Vivian McDowell and her husband Ralph; and Margaret O'Kresik and her husband Walt; and a brother Ted, Charlottesville, Va.
