Obituary

Donald E. Curran, 97, of Neshannock Twp. passed away peacefully Saturday morning, November 17, 2018, in Avalon Nursing Home, New Castle.

Mr. Curran was born August 23, 1921, in New Castle, a son of Merle L. and Eleanor (Bishop) Curran. A lifelong area resident, he was a graduate of New Castle High School.

A proud veteran, Don enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941, and served in the European Theatre during WWII.

He retired in 1980 from the Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad, Youngstown, OH, where he worked as a clerk for 41 years.

Don was a member of St. Mary Church – Mary, Mother of Hope Parish, New Castle.

He was also a member of the F.O.E., Aerie 455, New Castle.

Don loved golfing, playing into his early 90's, and also enjoyed playing tennis well into his 80's.

His first wife, the former Anna Kulnis, whom he married May 31, 1948, passed away October 29, 1986.

Don is survived by his wife, the former Jean Vignola, whom he married December 17, 1990, of Neshannock Twp.; two sons, Robert D. (Kathleen) Curran, of Ridgefield, CT, and James E. (Susan) Curran, of New Albany, OH; a daughter, Mary (Scott Miller) Curran, of Apex, North Carolina; two step daughters, Laurie Schweikert, of Pewaukee, Wisconsin, and Cindy Micco, of New Castle; four grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and 4 step great grandchildren.

In addition to his first wife, Don was preceded in death by his parents.

Calling hours will be 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday (11-20-18) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday (11-21-18) in St. Mary Church, 124 N. Beaver St., New Castle, with Rev. Victor J. Molka, Jr., as celebrant.

Interment: St. Mary Cemetery, New Castle.

Full military honors will be rendered by the New Castle Area Honor Guard.
