Donald E. Baird, 73, formerly of Ashland, OH, passed away unexpectedly due to natural causes Monday morning, September 24, 2018, in New Castle.

Mr. Baird was born September 7, 1945, in Chicago, IL, a son of the late Leonard and Lorraine (Hoffman) Baird.

Following high school, Donald enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was deployed during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was honorably discharged in 1969 following five years of service.

Don retired in 2008 from APT, Harmony, PA, where he was employed as a loading dock manager for 18 years. For the past several years, he worked at Ollie's Bargain Outlet, New Castle.

Don attended Washington Union Alliance Church, New Castle.

He was a lifelong member of the American Legion, Post 88, Ashland, OH.

Don loved his family and cherished the time he spent with them, especially his grandchildren. He had a talent for fixing just about anything, and never hesitated to help a family member or friend with a project.

Surviving are: his beloved wife of 45 years, the former Victoria Bowersock, whom he married May 26, 1973; two daughters, Tina Pollock, Bucyrus, OH, and Heather (Steven) Tomon, New Castle; a son, Kevin (Janet) Baird, Mansfield, OH; two sisters, JoAnne (Ronnie) Rodehaver and Linda (Brian) Dickman; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his son, Nathan Baird; and a brother, Leonard "Sonny" Baird.

In celebration of Don's life, a reception with food and fellowship will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday in Washington Union Alliance Church, 2119 W Washington St, New Castle, all are encouraged to wear their favorite Pittsburgh Steeler attire.

Entombment: Ashland County Memorial Park, Ashland, OH.

Full military honors will be rendered at the Mausoleum.
