Dominic Joseph Marletto, Richmond, Va., formerly of Hermitage and Sharon, Pa. passed away with his wife by his side at 7:45 a.m. Saturday (6-25-11). He was in a Richmond area hospital after a fall and suffering pneumonia four days earlier. He was 94.
Dominic was born on February 12, 1917 in Sharon, Pa., the son of Michael and Mary Mastrianni Marletto. He graduated from 8th grade at Sharon school in 1931 when he began serving in the Civil Conservation Corps. He was stationed at P.O. Box 1142, a secret post located in Alexandria and served in Japan during World War II in the U.S. Army. He provided professional photography services to hundreds of local families. He also worked for Westinghouse, Sharon, Pa. In 2009 he and his wife, Rose Marletto moved to Richmond, Va. to be near their caring daughter, Annette Gregg.
To know Dominic Marletto was to know someone you could always count on. He was a faithful Catholic, a caring son and brother, a loving husband, a dedicated father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, a compassionate friend, a hard worker, and a loyal veteran and patriotic American. Dominic was known as 'Papa' to more than his grandchildren because of his contagious smile and playful humor. He touched countless lives in a meaningful way, with honesty and inspiration.
Mr. Marletto was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Sharon Council 684, and was a member and past Faithful Navigator of the 4th Degree Sharon Assembly, the Catholic War Veterans, Post 1446, and was active with the Veterans of Foreign War Sharon Post 1338.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Sharon, and St. Ann's in Ashland, Va.. He also served as a member of the Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima.
His wife the former Rose A. D'Urso whom he married on August 23, 1947, survives at home in Richmond, Va.. He will also be greatly missed by his brother Frank Marletto, Kate Tonty, and Clementine Rossi; his three children, Annette M. Gregg of Richmond, Va., son Michael J. Marletto of Hermitage, Pa, Joseph P. Marletto of Hermitage, Pa and his six grandchildren, Maria Goebert, Lucinda Rini-Stevens, Theresa Fersch, Joseph F.D. Rini, Michael Marletto, and LeeAndrea Marletto; and his 11 great-grandchildren, Daniel Mills, Dominic Mills, Scolaighe Goebert, Donovan Goebert, Abigail Stevens, Rosanna Stevens, Gabriel Stevens, Mia Marletto, Christopher Marletto, and Caine Marletto, and Liam Patrone. In addition, he leaves several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Patsy Marletto, his sister Grace Smeraglia, and his grandchildren Nicholas Marletto and Christina Marletto.

Services: Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday (6-29-11) at 11:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, Sharon, Pa. with Fr. Whitman as celebrant. There will be a brief prayer service at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home prior to the procession leaving for the church on Wednesday morning.
Entombment: Full military honors will be provided by the Sharon Honor Guard at St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage, Pa.
