Once we were her angels; now she is ours. Dolores Christy, 95, formerly of Hermitage, passed away Friday morning, August 21, 2026, in the Lakes at Jefferson.

Tootsie as most people knew her, was born on February 27, 1931, in Sharon, a daughter of the late Andy and Mary (Kenig) Matvey. She was a graduate of Farrell High School, class of 1949. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Youngstown State University.

She loved her job as an art and elementary teacher at Hickory Elementary School, working there for 22 years before retiring.

Her husband of 62 years, Donald James Christy, whom she married on June 11, 1955, passed away on March 4, 2018.

Dolores was a member of St. John’s Orthodox Church, Hermitage.

Throughout her years, she was active in many clubs, most notably the Hermitage Women’s Club and the College Club.

She was an accomplished artist, seamstress and swimmer. Toots was also an avid traveler, including many trips to Europe. She will be remembered for her willingness to help family and friends, and her great sense of humor and compassion.

She is survived by a daughter, Dawnelle Kovach, of Transfer; a son, Dana (Joan) Christy, of Hermitage; a granddaughter, Dawn Lucas, of McKinney, TX; a sister, Sandra Dimoff, Farrell; and two brothers, Gerald (Connie) Matvey, of Mercer, and Norman (Rose) Matvey, of Hermitage.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dolores was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Christy; a son-in-law, John Kovach; a sister, Carole Matvey (1940); and two brothers, Earnest and Richard Matvey.

The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to St. John’s Orthodox Church, 3180 Morefield Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148.

Tootsie’s family would like to thank the entire staff of the Lakes at Jefferson and the Anova Hospice for their exceptional care of their mother during her time with them.

Funeral service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, in the church, with Rev. David Mastroberte officiating.

Interment: St. John’s Cemetery, Hermitage.
