Obituary

Diane A. Buchko, 80, of Hermitage died Thursday afternoon April 17, 2025, at her home following a brief illness.

Diane was born on February 15, 1945, in Erie, PA, the daughter of Edwin and Alice (Swanson) Werle.

Her childhood in Erie was one where she navigated life as the only sister with three brothers who recall her being a 'Daddy's girl' as well as the 'apple of her mother's eye'.  For them, she will always be the cheerful, blonde-haired cutie, for whom they took seriously the role of protector. Among their cherished memories, they remember her as a beautiful Coppertone gal sporting a golden tan who loved the beach and recall with pride a specific moment when their songbird sister sang at the 1964 Worlds Fair in New York City.

Diane was a 1963 graduate of Strong Vincent High School, Erie, which followed with her attending Edinboro University.  While at Edinboro, Diane left her studies for another path – an elopement with the love of her life, John Buchko.  From there, they began a wild, wonderful, and happy 46-year journey together where each other's happiness was paramount.

A career opportunity presented itself at Marine National Bank, where Diane dedicated herself to the business.  With her hard work ethic and business acumen she moved through the ranks to eventually become Bank Manager.

With a loving marriage and engaging career in full swing, the absolute joy of her life arrived on October 23, 1983 when John and Diane welcomed baby Jennifer to their lives!  A blessing where love had no limits - as the joys of motherhood resulted in uncountable milestones of devotion and laughter with a daughter who made life richer, fuller, and complete in every way.

After enjoying years of retirement with her husband, Diane embarked on another work endeavor at the Giant Eagle in Hermitage, PA which created many stories and smiles she readily shared.

Possessing an amazing and endearing sense of humor, no one enjoyed a hearty laugh more.
Life was better for those who experienced Diane's zest for life and her wide-dimpled smile that sparkled with bright eyes.  A caring person whose kindness was part of who she was, she contributed time and energy to community causes- especially fundraising and awareness efforts on behalf of the American Heart Association and being part of a knitting klatch that donated their creations to newborns. She graciously joined her daughter on adventures in gardening and day trips to simply enjoy a drive and spend time together.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents and husband, John (May 29, 2016). Diane is survived and deeply missed by her beloved daughter, Jennifer Buchko of Pittsburgh, PA and three brothers: Richard, Douglas, and Edwin Werle.
