Dennis William Hoovler of Hermitage passed away Sunday, November 20, 2016. He was 60.
Dennis was born to Wilma Burrows Hoovler and Robert Hoovler on July, 31 1956.
He graduated from Hickory High School in 1974 and attended Penn State University graduating in 1978 with a BS in Biology. Dennis continued his education at Penn State, achieving a Doctor of Philosophy in recognition of the completion of advanced study in Anatomy in 1983.
In 1981, he married Anna Mary Bocko. For 35 years they built a life together. Their journey included both personal and professional accomplishments, always supportive of one another, always engaged with a wonderful group of friends and family. Together they explored the world, challenged one another and always looked for the next adventure.
Dennis believed in the fundamental power of education. He never stopped learning, being curious or wanting to know new facts and discoveries. He shared that joy and advocacy for education with everyone around him in a way that empowered others to join in the discovery and dialogue.
Dennis was a connector, a man who was able to make others feel and be welcomed in any situation. Whether it was his professional work in scientific sales and neuroscience research or his more recent role in retirement as vice president of the Apollo Maennerchor, his innate kindness and enjoyment of others drew people to him. He was ever present in many situations with a calm and steady influence.
Dennis was a renaissance man with varied and eclectic interests including science, music, news, events, automobiles, crossword puzzles, golf, canoeing, and camping. He was a micro brew aficionado and his sure, steady and talented hands were applied to wood working as well as renovation. Dennis was always willing to lend a hand to projects, friends, and initiatives.
When diagnosed with multiple myeloma, Dennis remained true to his spirit believing in the power of medicine and science. His courage and strength were inspirational to those that shared his myeloma journey.
