Dennis Wayne Guthrie, 416 Petronia St., Key West, FL, formerly of Sharpsville and Sharon, passed away Monday evening (1-26-09) of natural causes in his home. He was 47.
Mr. Guthrie was born May 3, 1961 in Sharon a son of Herbert B. and Shirley A. Campbell Guthrie.
He was a 1979 graduate of Sharpsville High School and received an associate degree from Penn State University, Shenango Valley Campus.
Dennis began his career in retail at the former Heck's Department Store in Downtown Sharon. He moved to Florida in 1987 and was a store manager at Target's in Ft. Lauderdale for a number of years where he received many retail service awards. He then worked for a brief period at Old Navy in the Ft. Lauderdale-Miami area and for the past five years was the store manager at Bath and Body Works in Key West, FL.
Dennis was an avid Penn State fan and enjoyed walking, outdoor activities, art and the ocean. He loved to travel and will best be remembered as a kind and caring soul who was always willing to help others.
He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Surviving are: his loving mother, Shirley Porterfield, Sharon; a brother, Brian K. Guthrie, West Middlesex; a sister, Linette R. Porterfield, Niles, Ohio; his grandparents, Glenn and Hilda Campbell, Sharon; aunts, uncles, cousins, a niece and many friends.
Dennis was preceded in death by his father and grandparents, Herbert and Ruth Guthrie.
In memory of Dennis the family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Calling hours will be from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Saturday (1-31-09) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday (1-31-09) in the funeral home with the Rev. C. Charles Eckles, pastor of IHS Gospel Ministries, Hermitage, officiating.
Interment: Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage.
