Dennis Edward Gaines of Sharon passed away unexpectedly Thursday morning, Feb. 12, 2015, in the emergency room of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 61. Mr. Gaines was born Nov. 12, 1953, in Sharon, a son of Ralph Edward and Grayce Louise (Pears) Gaines. He was a lifelong resident of the Shenango Valley and a 1971 graduate of Hickory High School, Hermitage. Denny was an over the road truck driver for PI&I Motor Express, Masury. He previously worked at the former National Castings, a division of Midland Ross Corp.; and Phillips Steel Co., Hermitage. An outdoorsman, Denny enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a former coach in the Mercer-Lawrence Counties Church Slow Pitch Softball League. Denny also liked playing pool and was a member of the VNEA Billiards League for several years. Surviving are: a daughter, Dana Lynn Gaines, Hermitage; two sons, Adam Michael Gaines and his wife Rebecca, Hadley; and Cory Matthew Gaines, Sharon; three grandchildren, William and Daneiya Acrie; and Ethan Gaines; two sisters, Barbara J. Hardesty and her husband James; and Beth E. Mills, all Farrell; a brother, David A. Gaines and his wife Penny, Hermitage; and several nieces and nephews.
