Delores E. O'Neill, 82, of Hermitage, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2025, while residing at Clepper Manor, Sharon.

Mrs. O'Neill was born on January 8, 1943, in the former Mercer Cottage Hospital, a daughter of the late Earl and Margaret (Buxton) Catterson. She graduated from Mercer High School in 1960 and began her education at Edinboro State Teachers College, majoring in elementary education. Following her graduation in 1964, she began teaching at Greenville School District, retiring in 1996, with 32 years of service.

On August 10, 1968, Dee married Kevin O'Neill, in Sacred Heart Church and honeymooned in Miami, FL, and made their home in Mercer for the next 44 years. The two of them raised two daughters, Darcie Shaffer (Todd) and Kerri O'Neill, all of Hermitage.  They moved to Hermitage in 2012 to be close to their daughters and granddaughters.

Dee enjoyed going to bingo with her mother and vacationing at Myrtle Beach, SC. She also liked going on cruises and traveling abroad. She was a dedicated teacher and took great joy when her students succeeded in their school work.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters; two granddaughters, Brodie Shaffer, of Cary, NC, and Marlie Shaffer, of Hermitage; and a sister, Janet Gassner (Martin), of Hermitage.

In addition to her parents, Dee was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Warner.
