Dean S. McClelland of Hermitage and formerly of Pittsburgh passed away at 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2017. He was 94.
Mr. McClelland was born March 8, 1923 in Johnstown, PA the son of Andrew H. and Mary L. McClelland. He was a 1941 graduate of Johnstown High School and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Duke University. While at Duke he was a member of the Naval Reserves and upon graduation he enrolled in the midshipmen's school at Columbia University, New York. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served for three years during World War II.
A registered Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania, he retired in 1983 from the former Sharon Steel Corporation where he was a project engineer. Previously he worked as an engineering supervisor for U.S. Steel Research, Monroeville, PA for 25 years. He also served as a Design Engineer for the Alcoa Company, Pittsburgh for 15 years and early in his life worked for the Pennsylvania Electric Company in Johnstown, PA.
He was an active member of the Hickory United Methodist Church, Hermitage and at one time was a Lay Leader for 10 years for the Methodist church while living in Pittsburgh. He was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church, Sharon and served as a trustee at the church.
He was a 67 year Master Mason and a 73 year member of Pi Tau Sigma National Honorary Mechanical Engineering Fraternity. He was a volunteer for Meals-On Wheels and also served many years for The Salvation Army.
He and his wife, the former Shirley Stormer, were married January 14, 1945 and recently celebrated their 72 nd wedding anniversary. She survives at Garden Way Place, Hermitage. Also surviving are three children: Sherrill Primo and her husband Richard, Sara Lu Christian and her husband Jimmy, and Dean A. McClelland and his wife Adrienne; and a sister, Joann Baker and her husband Robert, Williamsburg, VA. He will also be greatly missed by his six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a younger brother, Robert McClelland.

Service: A brief service will be held at the Hickory United Methodist Church on Sunday, May 28 th , 2017 immediately following the 10:50am service. Arrangements by J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 1090 East State St., Sharon, PA 16146.
