Obituary

David Gene Nicoloff, of Hermitage, passed away unexpectedly Friday afternoon, December 8, 2017, in the intensive care unit of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 72.

Mr. Nicoloff was born June 17, 1945, in Sharon, a son of Louis D. and Hilda (Badis) Nicoloff. He was raised in Farrell and was a 1963 graduate of Farrell High School.

Dave was employed at Packard Electric Corp., Warren, Ohio, for more than 40 years, retiring in 2007. Following his retirement, he enjoyed working part time in the maintenance department of the Hermitage School District.

Dave was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Sharon, where he sang in the choir. An avid runner during the early 1990's, he participated in many marathons, including the Pittsburgh Marathon, and won numerous medals and trophies. He also enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Knights of Columbus golf league and the former Danny's golf league.

He and his wife, Cindy, enjoyed traveling, particularly to visit their daughters and trips to the casinos. Dave was a Pittsburgh Steeler fan and a member of the Hickory VFW, Post # 6166, Hermitage; the American Legion, Post # 299, Sharon; and the Sons of Italy, also Sharon.

His wife of 41 years, the former Cindy Lou Bonta, whom he married July 30, 1976, passed away August 29, 2017.

Surviving are: three daughters, Leisa Conlin and her husband Tim, Sharon; Jennifer Nicoloff, New York, NY; and Natalie Nicoloff, Scottsdale, AZ; a son, Jason Nicoloff, Sharon; a granddaughter whom he adored and enjoyed spending time, Jessica Conlin, Niles, OH; a twin sister, Donna Kobsik and her husband Fred, Charlotte, NC; a brother, Louis C. "Chookie" Nicoloff and his wife Patricia, Denver, CO; his father-in-law, Nick Bonta, Hermitage; a brother- and sister-in-law, John and Linda Comninos, Hermitage; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, Dave was preceded in death by his parents; a niece, Nicole Marie Comninos; and his mother-in-law, Dorothy "Dottie" Bonta.

Dave volunteered to help cancer patients and participated in many of the Relay for Life and ALS walkathons. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to The ALS Association, Gift Processing Center, P.O. Box 37022, Boone, IA 50037-0022 (www.alsa.org).

Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 12, 2017, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2017, in the funeral home, with Rev. Dr. Philip Makari, officiating.
