Obituary

A funeral service will be Saturday for David Allen Gilson of Carnegie, Pa., formerly of Sharon. He passed away at 5:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, 2015, in his home after an extended illness. He was 66. Mr. Gilson was born April 17, 1949, in Titusville, a son of Calvin C. and Ellen (O'Connor) Gilson. He attended the former St. Joseph School, Sharon, and was a 1967 graduate of Sharon High School. Dave also attended Youngstown State University and took a multitude of electronics courses. Dave served with the Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Okinawa. Dave was employed as a field engineer by Compucom in Pittsburgh for more than 30 years. He was a former member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon. Dave enjoyed camping with friends in the Allegheny Mountains and going to casinos. He was a fan of Penn State football and the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. While his children were playing Little League, he served as a coach and later as president. Surviving are his mother, Ellen Gilson, Sharon; his wife, Diane L. Holston, at the residence; three children, David Allen Gilson Jr. and his wife Christina, Erie; Dennis Anthony Gilson and his wife Christy, New Castle; and Deanna Marie Gilson, Syracuse, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Brittney, Tony, Eric and Olivia Gilson; Dylan Gilson; and Jacob Abbott; a sister, Carol Isacks and her husband Albert, Millcreek, Pa.; two brothers, Joseph Gilson and his wife Karen, Pembroke Pines, Fla.; and Edwin Gilson, New Wilmington; his former wife, Donna Usnarski; his mother- and father-in-law, Phyllis and Jim Holston, Washington, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his father and a nephew, Benjamin Fill. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to cancer research. Calling hours: None. Service: 3 p.m. today (8-8-15) in J. BRADLEY McGONIGLE FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORY Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon, with the Rev. Thomas Whitman, pastor of St. Joseph Church, Sharon, officiating. Interment: Union Cemetery, Titusville.
