Custer
November 12, 1941 – February 4, 2025
David E. Custer, 83, of Grove City, formerly a longtime resident of Masury, OH, passed away at his home with family by his side Tuesday afternoon, February 4, 2025.
Mr. Custer was born November 12, 1941, in Rimersburg, PA, a son of the late Arthur E. and Twila E. (Edinger) Custer.
As a young man, David worked at Malleable Steel in Sharon, and later worked for U.S. Motors, Inc., while living in Chino Valley, AZ. He also worked as a Forest Ranger in Oregon, and later in life instructed botany and survival courses at Slippery Rock University.
David was a member of Maple Grove Mennonite Church in New Castle, PA.
David loved the great outdoors and had a passion for sharing his vast knowledge of plants, fungi, and survival with others.
He is survived by five children, Tim Custer, of New Castle, PA, Victoria Custer, of Slippery Rock, PA, Twila Custer (Scott Lightner), of Farrell, Eletta Conley, of Grove City, and Kenneth Custer (Joy), of Kentucky; a brother, Robert Custer (Myrtle), Burghill, OH; 14 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester and Arthur Custer; his former spouse, Wilhemina Custer; an infant son, David Custer, Jr.; and a son-in-law, Richard Conley.
Calling hours will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday (2-8-25) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
A funeral service will immediately follow at 2 p.m., in the funeral home, with Rev. Cheryl Vanatsky, officiating.
Interment: Brookfield Cemetery, Brookfield, OH.
