Darrell M. Christy of Hermitage passed away unexpectedly of natural causes
Tuesday
morning, May 17, 2016, while trout fishing.
He was 59.
Darrell was born January 31, 1957, in Sharon, a son of Donald and Dolores Matvey Christy.
He was a lifelong area resident and a 1975 graduate of Hickory High School.
During his youth, he was a Boy Scout with Troop # 16 in Hermitage and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
Darrell was a journeyman stonemason throughout his career and his bricklaying skills are evident in many of the areas homes and buildings.
He was also employed by Erme's Distributing Co., Hermitage, for ten years and previously owned and operated Reynold's Beer Distributor.
Darrell was affiliated with St. John's Orthodox Church, Hermitage.
A car and motorcycle enthusiast, he was involved in drag racing, most notably at Sunset Drag Strip in Charleston and Quaker City and Norwalk, Ohio, where he had much success.
He was also an exceptional mechanic and was currently restoring a 1957 Harley Davidson motorcycle.
An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and taking long casual rides in the country.
"Dari," as he was affectionately known by his family members, is survived by: his parents, Don and Dolores Christy, Hermitage; a brother, Dana R. Christy and his wife Joan, also Hermitage; a sister, Dawnelle Kovach and her husband John, Transfer; a niece, Dawn Glasgow and her husband Richard, Brandon, FL; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, all whom will miss him dearly.
Darrell will be remembered as a generous man with a kind heart who was always willing to help those in need.

Interment: St. John's Cemetery, Hermitage.
