Daniel Worona Jr., 1209 Ridge Ave., Sharpsville, Pa. passed away unexpectedly on Monday (3-23-09) morning at his home of natural causes following an brief illness. He was 62.
He was born on February 22, 1947 in Sharon to Daniel and Dorothy May Worona.
He attended Sharpsville Schools.
He worked as a welder for 43 years and for the past 12 years he was employed by Strive Enterprises, Reynolds.
A decorated war veteran, he served with the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict and after completing his four year tour of duty he received the National Defense Medal; the Vietnam Service Medal; and the Navy Unit Commendation. He had been a member of the Navy See Bees where he received his training as a welder.
He was a member of the Hickory Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6166, Hermitage, and the Sharon American Legion Post # 299.
Dan was an avid NASCAR fan cheering on Mark Martin for many years and he also enjoyed going to classic car shows and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
He is survived by his two sons, Chris Worona and his wife Stephanie, Sharpsville: and Todd Worona of Austintown, OH: a brother Dennis Worona and his wife Cathy of Clark; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Calling hours: 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday (3-26-09) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 1090 E. State St. Sharon.
Services: A memorial service will be held on Friday (3-27-09) at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
