Obituary

Daniel R. Gary, 85, of New Castle passed away Tuesday evening, April 21, 2015, in Kindred Care, Beaver, following an extended illness. He was born May 24, 1929, in Washington, Pa., to the late George Carter and Josephine M. Fenwick Gary. He worked for many years as a truck driver at the former Chemical Tank Line Co., New Castle. He was a longtime member of the Western Pennsylvania Teamsters Local 322. Dan was honorably discharged from the Army as a sergeant after serving his country during the Korean War. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Campaign Stars and the United Nations Service Medal. He was a member of New Castle American Legion Post 343 and Rochester VFW Post 128. Dan enjoyed walking at the mall with his friends, reading and completing puzzles. He is survived by his companion of 35 years, Sara R. Cline, at home; a daughter, Patricia "Patsy" Cox and her husband of Lowell, Mass.; a sister, Nancy Huff of Vanport, Pa.; two grandchildren, Patrick Cox and Laurie Proulx; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Allen and Georgette Simpson; one brother, George Gary; and a grandson, Sean Dufresne. Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, April 27, in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 111 W. Falls St. A service will be held at noon in the funeral home conducted by the Rev. Wayne Schar, pastor of Epworth United Methodist Church. Military rites will be conducted by the New Castle Area Honor Guard. Interment will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
