Daniel K.
Bittler
August 8, 1931 – February 11, 2024
Our beloved father and husband, Daniel K. Bittler, passed away suddenly on Sunday, February 11, 2024, in his home. He was 92.
Mr. Bittler was born on August 8, 1931, in Sharon, a son of the late Christian and Mildred (Doudy) Bittler. He was a 1949 graduate of Hickory High School, where he was a member of the championship football team. Daniel furthered his education at Allegheny College, Meadville, until he answered his country's call during the Korean War, and honorably served in the U.S. Army while being stationed in Japan.
Upon his discharge, Dan earned his engineering degree from Youngstown State University. He spent his career working as a project manager for the Ohio Department of Transportation. He also served several years as President of the American Society of Highway Engineers.
Dan was a member of Hickory Global Methodist Church, Hermitage. Additionally, he was a lifetime member of the NRA, a 32-year member of the American Legion, and the Hickory Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 6166, Hermitage.
An avid outdoorsman, he loved shooting, hunting, camping and just being outside. He was also highly involved with Boy Scout Troop 141, serving as Scoutmaster and Committee Chair for several years.
Daniel was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Cunningham, and is survived by his current wife, Dorothy (Swanson) Kilgore Bittler.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sons, Daniel K. Bittler, Jr., Cleveland, OK, Dale Bittler, Austintown, OH, David Bittler, Westminster, MD, Michael Bittler, Cleveland, OK, and Mark Bittler, Jamestown, NY; a daughter, Marlene Manser, Mooresville, NC; two sisters, Joan Cunningham, Austintown, and Carol Cook, High Springs, FL; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, and a brother, George Walter Bittler.

Calling hour will be 10 am until the time of the service Friday (02/16/2024) in Hickory Global Methodist Church, 240 North Hermitage Rd., Hermitage, PA.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, in the church, with Rev. Christine Doren, pastor, officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the Wheatland, Farrell and West Middlesex Honor Guard.
Interment: Resurrection Cemetery, Youngstown, OH.
