Obituary

Dale Allen Dunkerley, 2030 King Dr., Hermitage, passed away at 8:55 p.m. Saturday (7-25-09) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System following a brief illness. He was 84.
Mr. Dunkerley was born August 31, 1924 in Wheatland, PA a son of the late Dean and Margaret Diefenderfer Dunkerley.
He was a lifelong area resident and a 1942 graduate of Farrell High School.
Dale entered the US Marine Corp. in the spring of 1943 and served in the Asiatic Pacific area during WW II.
He retired in 1985 as a supervisor in the shipping department from the former Wheatland Tube Co. where he was employed for 35 years.
During the mid 1960's, Dale was a girls softball coach in Transfer. He was a member of the Reynolds VFW Post 7599 and a former member of the Polish National Alliance (PNA) bowling league at Thornton Hall Lanes in Sharon. Dale loved a variety of music and was an avid traveler. He enjoyed taking trips to Las Vegas, San Francisco and Lake Tahoe; and also cruising the Hawaiian Islands.
His first wife, the former Genevieve Juchnewich, whom he married Feb. 3, 1951, passed away September 9, 1998.
Surviving are: his wife at home, the former Mildred Oleskey Batten, whom he married on November 6, 1999; a daughter, Darlene Gibowicz and her husband Edward, Brookfield, Ohio; two sisters, Dorothy Dews and Ada Wallace, both Transfer; two step-sons, William Batten and his wife Evelyn, West Lake, Ohio; and James Batten and his wife Ko, Rochester, NY; and four step grandchildren, Bethany Sizemore, Suzanne Lemery, Christine Batten and William Batten.
Besides his parents and first wife, Dale was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Lynn Dunkerley who died on Jan. 21, 1953; and two sisters, Marjorie Dunkerley and Lois Campman, both formerly of Wheatland.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

A private service was held on Tuesday (7-28-09) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon, with the Rev. Jack Stevenson, retired pastor and a friend of Dale's, officiating.
Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery, Hermitage.
