Obituary

Cynthia Marie Alexander of Hermitage, PA, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2025. She was 75.  She was born July 2, 1949, in Sharon, a daughter of W. Dean Alexander and Florence (Parker) Alexander. Cynthia attended school in Sharpsville for grades 1 through 6 and in those early years she made many lifelong friends. She then transferred to the Hickory School District where she graduated in 1967.  After high school she attended Temple University in Philadelphia and graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a B.A. in Political Science. Later, after realizing her life-long dream of living in New York City, she graduated from Touro College, New York, New York with an M.S. in Education.

Cynthia was a voracious reader and she shared her love of good books and authors and of the latest movies (or old classics) with her grateful family and friends.  She was very intelligent (a member of Mensa), and she had a dry sense of humor.  After graduating college, she moved to Philadelphia, where she worked for the Postal Service.  Being a gregarious person, she hosted many friends and family members at her apartment in Philadelphia. While there, one could be assured of touring the many ethnic neighborhoods, attending various plays, and tasting different cuisines. She was extremely generous with her money and her time.  Cynthia also was the family genealogist and she discovered several unknown family connections.  She hosted many family reunions and her family members have always been grateful for the time and effort she spent connecting different branches of the family. Connecting people and keeping people informed of various events was her trademark.

Cynthia eventually moved to New York City, working in the garment industry and as a teacher for the New York Department of Education. She adored her students and they adored her back.  A new city meant new events and activities and 'broadening the horizons' of more lucky guests.  In time, she returned to Pennsylvania, where she eventually became a caregiver for her mother.  Afterwards, she spent several years taking her ailing brother to various events and on long drives in the mountains.  During this time, she also attended yearly events with her "OG" high school friends.

Cynthia is survived by a sister, Dr. Laurel Alexander (Lindell Bridges), Hermitage; a brother, Rod Alexander, Sharpsville; as well as a niece and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Jennifer Alexander; and a brother, Jeffery Alexander.

Cynthia will be remembered for her quick wit and dry sense of humor.  She was a loyal friend and a great conversationalist. She gave freely to her family members and brightened many of their final years with trips and her loving care. To quote one friend, "Cindy was my quirky, brilliant lifeline." Rest in peace dear sister, cousin, and friend.

The family is especially grateful for the help of her friends Kathy Rosa and Paula Haehnel and others during Cynthia's final months.
