Conrad "Connie" Vagasky of Masury passed away peacefully at 10:32 a.m. Friday, February 24, 2017, in his residence. He was 86.
Mr. Vagasky was born August 3, 1930, in Sharon, a son of Paul and Mary Hrite Vagasky. He was raised in Sharon and graduated from Sharon High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, and served from 1952 to 1956, receiving an honorable discharge.
Connie was employed at Sharon Steel's former Farrell plant where he worked as a crane operator for 44 years, retiring in 1992.
He was a lifelong member of St. John's Orthodox Church, Hermitage, where he belonged to its Men's Society and always cooked at their many gatherings and dinners.
Connie was an active member of the Slovenian Workingmen's Educational Club, Sharon, the Italian Home Club, Maneachor Club and VFW Post 5286, all Farrell. He loved polka dancing, animals and being outdoors, especially while swimming. He enjoyed cooking, particularly slow cooking lamb over an open pit on a spit, cheering for his beloved Cleveland sports teams and daily trips to Dunkin Donuts. Connie adored his grandchildren and cherished the time he was able to spend with them.
His wife, the former Flora Gallo, whom he married Nov. 12, 1960, passed away February 17, 1979.
Surviving are: two daughters, Christine Williams and her husband Carl, Twinsburg, OH; and Micki Obermiyer and her husband Scott, Brookfield; four grandchildren, Nicolas and Sean Williams; and Michael Conrad and Madison Grace Obermiyer; his lady friend, whom he adored, Dee Carmendy, Struthers; a brother in law, Frank Gallo, Youngstown; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Also surviving is he beloved cat, Sofia.
In addition to his wife, Connie was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Paul and John Vagasky; and two sisters, Alice Mittal; and Margaret Carioto.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Orthodox Church Building Fund, 3180 Moorefield Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148.
Calling hour will be 10 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday (2-28-17) in St. John's Orthodox Church, Hermitage. Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., in the church, celebrated by Rev. David Mastroberte, pastor, and Rev. Michael Polanichka, con-celebrant. Military honors will be rendered prior to the funeral service.
Interment: St. John's Cemetery, Hermitage.
