Obituary

Conrad Calvin Blight, New Castle, Pa. passed away peacefully of natural causes at 1:08 p.m. Tuesday (3-8-11) in Jameson Hospital following an extended illness. He was 80.

Conrad was born in New Castle on June 13, 1930 the son of Samuel and Virginia Gibson Blight.

He was a life long city resident and attended New Castle Schools.

A truck driver, he worked for several companies over the years including W. R. Grace, Valley Freight, Yellow Freight Services, and Norwalk Motor Freight.

He was a member of Mary Mother of Hope Parish. Conrad was a former member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish where he served as one of their first Eucharistic Ministers and could be seen volunteering at most church bazaars. As a member of the Holy Name Society, he was honored in 1982 as their Holy Name Man of the Year. He was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 512, New Castle.

He enjoyed bowling, golfing, rooting for his Pittsburgh Steelers, and making the world's best pies for his friends and family.

Conrad served his country in both the United States Marine Corp and Army and was honorably discharged in July of 1947.

His wife the former Gertrude Murray whom he married on December 29, 1951 survives at home.

He also leaves his three daughters, Kathleen Bush and her husband Terry, Cynthia Fontana, and Marcia Masters, all of New Castle. 7 grandchildren, Erin Cartwright and her husband Dale, Jennifer Bush and her fiancé Richard Panella III, Maureen Scott and her husband Jason, Diana Brown and her husband Timothy, Allison Sneed and her husband Jason, Nick Masters III, and Angela Masters; a sister in law, Anna Mae Withrow, and brother in law Deacon Charles Murray; and several loving nieces and nephews.

His parents and a great grandson Joseph Sneed preceded him in death.

Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday (3-10-11) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 111 W. Falls Street New Castle Pa.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on Friday (3-11-11) in St. Mary's Church with Rev. Victor J. Molka as the celebrant.
