Chester J. Nigro, Juniper Village at the Shenango Inn, Sharon, formerly of Trace Street, Hermitage, passed away at 12:00 a.m. Sunday (7-8-12) at his residence of natural causes. He was 93.
He was born January 23, 1919 in Sharon the son of Thomas and Dolores Infante Nigro. He was a member of Sharon High Schools graduating class of 1939 and he later graduated from the Shenango Valley Commercial Institute in 1954. Mr. Nigro worked at the former Sharon Transformer Division of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation from 1947 to 1971.
A decorated veteran, Chester served with the United States Army in the 237th Ordnance Service Battalion from 1941 to 1947 in Livorno, Italy. He later served his country for 35 years as an Army reservist and reached the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4th class. As an army reservist he worked at the 56th Station Hospital in Richmond, Virginia and retired in 1979.
He will be remembered for his artistic talents that he enjoyed sharing with local organizations such as the Knights of Columbus, and the Kennedy Christian Boosters as he helped design and decorate venues for their fund raising galas. He was also an avid golfer. Both he and his wife enjoyed traveling and made many trips abroad to Italy. They also enjoyed dancing.
While serving his country in Italy, Mr. Nigro met his wife the former Gina DiGovandomenico and they were wed on December 27, 1945 in the Church of San Giuseppe in Rome, she preceded him in death on December 31, 2006.
He leaves his two daughters, Rosemarie Pearlman, Sharon, and Linda Nicoloff and her husband Peter, Moon Township, PA; his four grandchildren, Gina Pearlman, Pittsburgh, Joshua Pearlman, Hermitage, Alexander Nicoloff, New York, NY, Jason Nicoloff and his wife Melissa, two great grandchildren, Chase and Lannon Nicoloff, all of Lafayette, IN, a sister in law, Nina Nigro, and many nieces and nephews in both Rome, Italy, and the United States.
He was preceded in death by his three sisters, Antoinette Messere, Grace and Jean Nigro, and two brothers, William and Dominick Nigro.

Services: Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday (7-12-12) in the St. Joseph's Church 79 Case Ave., Sharon, with Rev. Glenn R. Whitman, pastor as the celebrant.
Entombment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.
