Chester Paul Moore, 96, of New Castle passed away Thursday morning, July 12, 2018, at his residence.
Mr. Moore was born October 6, 1921, in Enon Valley, PA, a son of the late John V. and Mary A. (Shearer) Moore.
He graduated from Enon Valley High School in 1939. A proud veteran, Chester served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and was stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
He fought in the South Pacific theatre of operation at the Battle of Okinawa. He retired in 1998 from Tuscarawas Plastics, New Brighton, PA, where he worked as a fitter for 12 years.
Chester was previously employed by the Rex Nord Company, formerly the Matthews Conveyors Co., for 29 years. Chester was an Elder Emeritus of Enon Valley Bible Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post 343, New Castle.
Chester enjoyed completing crossword puzzles and hunting.
He loved baseball, and in his younger days he played league softball.
His wife, the former Norma Carlene Godwin, whom he married May 18, 1946, passed away February 23, 2017.
Surviving are: three sons, Kenneth A. Moore and his wife Barbara, Frederick, MD, Dennis P. Moore and his wife Janet, Nancy, KY, and Terry E. Moore, New Castle; a sister, Ruth W. Godwin, New Wilmington; eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Chester was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
There will be no calling hours.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Castleview Memorial Gardens Chapel, 3010 Wilmington Rd, New Castle, with Rev. David Hammond, officiating.
Full military honors will be rendered by the New Castle Area Honor Guard.
Interment will be in Castleview Memorial Gardens.
