Obituary

Chester Kowalczyk, 660 Wengler Ave., Sharon, passed away at 1:20 p.m. Saturday (4-9-11) at his residence, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 80.

Mr. Kowalczyk was born September 30, 1930 in Farrell a son of Charles and Sophie Futera Kowalczyk.

He attended the former St. Adalbert Parochial Grade School, Farrell, and was a 1949 graduate of Farrell High School.

He proudly served as a Lance Corporal with the US Marine Corp. from 1952-1954.

Chester retired as a utility maintenance mechanic in 1992 from Sharon Steel's former Farrell plant where he was employed for 33 years.

He was a lifelong active member of St. Adalbert Church, Farrell. Chester loved to hunt and landscape.

Surviving are; his wife at home, the former Rose Marie Santell, whom he married June 11, 1955 in St. Joseph Church, Sharon; a daughter, Lori Webb and her husband Ken, West Middlesex; two sons, Brian Kowalczyk and his wife Karen, Howell, Michigan; and Dennis Kowalczyk and his wife Evon, Gibsonia, PA; eight grandchildren whom he adored, Matt, Mike, Mark, Gabe, Jonah, and Samantha Kowalczyk; and Aaron and Lauren Webb; and a sister, Regina Lunich and her husband Milrod, Brookfield, Ohio.

Besides his parents, Chester was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Kolodziej, Dolores Kowalczyk, Laura Smith and Wanda Kowalczyk who died in infancy; and four brothers, Stanley, Henry, Matthew and John Kowalczyk.

The family would like to thank the nurses and attendants from Sharon Regional Hospice for their exceptional care during Mr. Kowalczyk illness.

Calling hours will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday (4-12-11) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday (4-13-11) at 10:00 a.m. in St. Adalbert Church, Farrell.

Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery, Hermitage.
