Obituary

Chester 'Chet' Milton Cornman of Hermitage passed away peacefully at 3:15 a.m. Monday (4-4-11) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after an extended illness. He was 72.

Mr. Cornman was born Dec. 6, 1938, in New Castle, a son of Elmer and Thelma Mae McFarland Cornman of West Middlesex.

A lifelong area resident, he graduated from West Middlesex High School in 1956. He worked in his early years at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., then retired from Chevron in Mercer, where he had been a fabricator for more than 30 years.

Chet was an avid bowler who also loved hunting, fishing and spending time outdoors. He was a member of Free and Accepted Masons Shenango Valley Lodge 810, Hermitage, and Scottish Rite's New Castle Consistory.

An Army Reservist, Mr. Cornman was ordered to active duty in May 1962 and served for six years, being honorably discharged on March 1, 1968. His family was most important to him and he will be sadly missed by all.

His wife, the former Rosalie Zentz, whom he married Oct. 5, 1971, survives at home. He also leaves: his four daughters, Deborah J. Harrington; Marta A. Gill; and Diane E. Darby and her husband Robert, all Hermitage; and Wendy S. Cerny and her husband John, Warren, Ohio; a son, Cecil G. Gill and his wife Barbara, Sharpsville; two brothers, Edward Cornman and his wife Margaret, San Antonio; and Thomas Cornman, Sharon; and four grandchildren, Hollie and Ross Harrington, Robert Darby and Cody Gill. Chet was preceded in death by his two sisters, Margaret Pierce, and Charlotte Woodle; and two brothers, John and David Cornman.

Calling hours: 5 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday (4-6-11) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon. Masonic rites will be held at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home with his brothers from Free and Accepted Masons Shenango Valley Lodge 810, Hermitage, followed by full military honors rendered by the Honor Guard of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6233, West Middlesex; and American Legion Post 432, Wheatland.

Service: Funeral service will follow his Masonic and military services on Wednesday evening in the funeral home with the Rev. C. Charles Eckles, pastor of I.H.S. Gospel Ministries, Hermitage, officiating.
