Charlotte E. Harkless, 77, of Mercer passed away peacefully surrounded by family Tuesday afternoon, March 5, 2024, in UPMC Jameson Hospital.
Mrs. Harkless was born November 11, 1946, in Sharon, a daughter of John and Hilda (Turk) Popadak and was a 1964 graduate of Farrell High School.
A homemaker, Charlotte loved to cook and was famous for her traditional ethnic dishes, especially stuffed cabbage and kolachi rolls. She also enjoyed crocheting, and as an animal lover, cherished spending time with her many pets.
Charlotte was of the Catholic faith and formerly had taught C.C.D. classes at the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mercer.
An avid bowler, she participated in local leagues and an annual state tournament.
Her husband of 51 years, Thomas A. Harkless, whom she married November 11, 1972, survives at their home in Mercer.
Charlotte is also survived by a daughter, Stacy Solomon (Howard), Transfer; a son, John Harkless, Mercer; a sister, Patricia Hines, Niles, OH; two beloved grandchildren, Shane and Emma Solomon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Known as "Mom" by many, Charlotte also leaves behind a large family that she had "adopted" throughout her life of kindness and giving to others.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
In keeping with Charlotte's wishes, a celebration of her life will be held this coming summer.
