Charles H. Rust, Sr., 85, of Sharon, passed away Sunday evening, January 7, 2024, in Sharon Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Rust was born on December 25, 1938, in Sharpsville, a son of the late James and Josephine (Pasco) Rust, and attended Sharon and Grove City School Districts.

He married his wife whom he affectionately referred to as his "Bride," the former Susan Roshala, on May 16, 1970, she survives at home.

Charles was employed as a sub-foreman for National Fuel Gas Company, retiring on August 1, 1997, with more than 41 years of service.

A fighter until the end he was known for his caring heart and was the most honest and loyal man. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, "wisecracks" and "dad jokes" which later became "papa jokes" to his beloved grandchildren Kiley and Aiden.

He was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Nascar fan, first rooting for Dave Blaney and later Ryan Blaney on many Sundays. He always loved country music, especially Hank Williams, Sr. Equally, he enjoyed cowboy movies and shows, with his favorite being Gunsmoke.

Charles had a great love for the outdoors, spending his earlier years hunting and fishing and countless weekend getaways at his camp with his wife, son, grandson and son-in-law. He also enjoyed working on cars and passed that love on to his son, Charles, Jr.

A loving and supportive father, he was always there for his children.

In the last months, Charles was able to spend special time with his "bride" and daughter, watching Family Feud and Gunsmoke. He will be sorely missed by his family and all who knew him.

He is survived by his bride, Susan; a daughter, Christine Rust and son-in-law, Todd Marrow; a son, Charles Rust and daughter-in-law, Mandi; and two grandchildren, Kiley and Aiden Rust. Also surviving are three sisters, Pauline Schambura, Dorothy Wilson and Carol Rust; a brother, Rob Rust; two brothers-in-law, Jack Roshala and his wife Winnie, and Kippy Petsko; and two sisters-in-law, Mariellen Palmer and her husband Glen, and Carol Roshala.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by two children, Christopher and Charlene Rust; a granddaughter, Riley Rust; his stepfather, Frank Paso; two sisters, Mary Pierson and her husband Stan, and Darlene Brooks; three brothers, Donald, Harry and Paul Rust; a sister-in-law, Nancy Petsko; three brothers-in-law, James Roshala and his wife Janice, Terry Roshala, and Ron Schambura; and two stepsons, Frankie and Johnny Wasko.
