Charles 'Chuck' A. McDowell, 194 Shenango Park Dr., Transfer, PA passed away unexpectedly Monday morning (2-9-09) in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a brief illness. He was 58.
Mr. McDowell was born Jan. 5, 1951 in Sharon a son of the late Richard and Ruth Russell McDowell.
He was raised in the Charleston area and attended Mercer High School.
Chuck owned and operated Chuck's Auto Service, Transfer, for twenty years and previously was employed as a mechanic for the borough of Greenville.
He was a member of the Transfer (PA) Baptist Church.
Chuck was an avid NASCAR fan and traveled to many of the races. His favorite drivers were Dale Earnhardt and his son, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. He also loved animals and enjoyed muscle cars, playing poker, hunting, and earlier in his life, going to his camp in the Allegheny Mountains. Chuck's greatest joy, however, was sharing time with his family, particularly his grandchildren.
Surviving are: his wife at home, the former Lynne McCauley whom he married July 31, 1976; two daughters, Kim Walsh and her husband Dan, Sharpsville; and Sheila Moore and her husband Eric, Atlantic, Crawford County; two sons, Bruce Robison, Philadelphia; and Andrew Robison, Seattle, WA; seven grandchildren, Jessica and Jake Robison, both Philadelphia; Daniel, Travis and Kourtney Walsh, all Sharpsville; and Richard and David Moore, both Atlantic, Crawford County; a sister, Barb Lambert and her husband Carl 'Joe', Charleston area; a brother, Dick McDowell, Sharon; his mother-in-law, Jeanette McCauley, Sharpsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by an aunt, Betty Russell.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Transfer Baptist Church, 50 Broad St., Transfer, PA 16154; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday (2-13-09) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday (2-14-09) in the funeral home with the Rev. Steven L. Malanowski, pastor of the Transfer Baptist Church, officiating.
