Charles W. "Buddy" Fischer Sr., formerly of Hillsville, passed away at 1:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 2015, in the Butler VA Hospital. He was 92. Mr. Fischer was born March 31, 1923, in Brooklyn, N.Y., a son of Jacob and Pauline Eillenburg Fischer. He was raised in Brooklyn, where he graduated from a mechanics school. A decorated World War II veteran, he served with the Army in General Patton's 1st Army, B Company, 11th Armored Division Thunderbolts. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart, having been wounded in Bastogne, Belgium. Upon his discharge, Buddy worked for Liberty Auto Parts. He also worked for Huntington Auto Parts, Long Island, N.Y., and Saw Creek Estates and as a crossing guard for the Delaware Valley School District, both in northeastern Pennsylvania. Buddy enjoyed puzzles, listening to oldies music and bingo. His wife of 59 years, the former Theresa Wiedl, whom he married Nov. 29, 1952, is deceased. Surviving are five children, Charles W. Fischer Jr., Pauline A. Fischer of Edinburg, John A. Fisher and twins Frank G. Fischer of Edinburg and Anthony M. Fischer and his girlfriend, Robin Gauselman, both of West Pittsburg; two grandchildren, Theresa Scurlock of New Castle and Charles W. Scurlock of Edinburg; and three great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, Buddy was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Edward, Walter and Arthur "Artie" Fischer; two sisters, Bertha Bertie Ferrara and Anita Girlie; two sisters-in-law, Rose and Gloria Fischer; and a brother-in-law, Edward Hanft. Buddy was a good father, loving husband, hard worker and always put his family first. Per his wishes, there are no calling hours.
